 Kalahari is derived from
the Tswana word Kgala,
meaning "the great
thirst", or Kgalagadi,
meaning "a waterless
place”; the Kalahari has
vast areas covered by
red sand without any
permanent surface
water.
Kalahari Desert is found in
the continent’s Southern
interior. The sand sheets
appear to have been
formed during the
Pleistocene Epoch (about
11 700 years ago) and it
have been fixed in place
since then.
